Yay!

I'm getting a flu shot tomorrow, because my mother (nurse) said I should, and she's going to pay for it...I live in a college dorm, so if one person gets the flu, we all will, and I can't afford to miss classes. I'm feeling good about it, because I keep telling myself I'm taking one away from some little brat who really doesn't need one. :-D

So, it would be a good idea for us dorm people to get shots?

Get the FluMist. Let people who qualify under the CDC priority list (see comment below) receive the shots they actually NEED.

Think about it: if one person has the flu, and you share a bathroom or an entrance door with them and you haven't been vaccinated (or misted!), you'll get it. All the handwashing in the world isn't going to do much...especially if you live in a dorm with people who aren't the cleanest in the world, like I do. :-\

Do you qualify under the CDC priority list? Because you could also be taking it away from the elderly or chronically ill people like myself...and I'm struggling to find just one damn flu shot in this godforsaken area.

If you're healthy, get the FluMist. Let people whose systems are compromised receive that shot.

Yeah, I just talked to Mom, and I think it actually is the FluMist...either way, my doctor has reserved enough only for her patients (which are mostly older people with cancer...she's an oncologist and a GP), so hopefully I won't have to wait in a big line. I wouldn't want to take away your flu shot, love...you need it more than I!

I'm an asthmatic and don't plan on getting a flu shot - I tend to catch the flu from it. Consider yourself as having my dose. I dun care.

Because little kids are just magically immune to things like the flu.

Look getting a flu shot is a good thing, being happy because someone else can't get one because you assume they don't need it being a major asshat.

By "little brat," I meant the healthy, hardy ones who over the age of 7-8, who have moos that insist that, "But Bratley NEEDS a flu shot!!! Old people or those with compromised immune systems don't have long to live anyways, but Bratley is only a CHHHYYYYYYLD!" Trust me, I have seen the lines at the grocery store pharmacy every fall and winter...it's ugly. Either way, I didn't mean to offend you...have a nice day!

I think that more kids should get the flu shot because how many of us have ended up getting sick because someone decided to drag their sniffling, sneezing flesh loaf out when they really should be at home?

But I think things like flu shots should be available to everyone, rich or poor, good health or bad

I agree, it sucks that things like this aren't available to everyone...I'm very much in favor of national public health care, too (the U.S. is the last major developed nation in the world that doesn't have it!). If people are bringing their sick kids to work with them, you should complain to your human resources department. I dread getting sick, and I'm at a high risk here in my dorm, especially...there are about 10 early childhood education majors that live on my floor and we share a bathroom. They have internships at various elementary schools in the area. I get scared thinking about the germs they're bringing home everyday...

As opposed to healthy adults, with immune systems fully developed, and who are aware enough to such precautions as basic hygiene and want it to avoid inconvenience?

Lets accept, arguendo, that you're not going to a clinic to take it away from someone who has a compromised immune system, your response... about little brats, and your explation, that your doctor has an eldery/sick client base don't really mesh... because that's one of your doctors patients who isn't getting it. One of those older people, or people with cancer; who might be weakened from chemo.

If you want to be selfish, go ahead, but don't lie to yourself about what you're doing.

Every chance I get I tell BNP's to take their ill sproglets home so they won't infect the rest of us.

I really hate that, you know?
