Welcome to the LiveJournal childfree community! This is a place where those who are childfree can meet like-minded people and discuss the things relevant to their lifestyles. What makes a person childfree? Childfree.net likely says it best:

"We are a group of adults who all share at least one common desire: we do not wish to have children of our own. We are teachers, doctors, business owners, authors, computer experts -- you name it. We choose to call ourselves "childfree" rather than "childless," because we feel the term "childless" implies that we're missing something we want -- and we aren't. We consider ourselves childFREE -- free of the loss of personal freedom, money, time and energy that having children requires."
Childfree means that you do not want children -- now or ever. If you have no kids now, but plan to in the future -- through adoption or biologically -- you are childless.

However, in case it's not clear, this community is not about hating children OR parents. There are good and bad parents and good and bad kids, and ranting about the latter doesn't mean we hate the former. Also, this community by its foundation supports a woman's right to control her body and destiny in regards to life and reproduction in both directions, and misogyny therefore has no place here. Please leave woman-hating terms at the door.

Attention! If you are a parent or a fan of kids in general, and you are curious to know why the childfree feel the way that they do about kids/parents, then please go here before joining our community and asking questions. We've been asked over and over about our views and, quite frankly, we're a little sick of it. Thanks for your co-operation!

For the record, not all childfree people necessarily hate children; many actually love children and enjoy being around them -- they simply don't want any of their own, which is what childfreedom is. True, some hate kids, but that is their personal preference, and they are entitled to it just as you are entitled to yours. As long as no one is getting hurt, who cares?

Here are the rules:
  1. Adhere to the LiveJournal terms of service.

  2. You must be childfree or support childfreedom. If you are a parent, feel free to join, but DO NOT POST ABOUT YOUR KIDS. This includes usericons featuring your kids and anything beginning with, "As a parent, I..." Childfree members, no witch hunts. If someone doesn't post about being a parent here, you shouldn't post about them being a parent, either.

  3. We don't care to hear about how you're going to have six kids but totally support us, so if that's what you want to post, step away from the "Update Journal" page. Why? Look here. No, really. We're actually SERIOUS about you not posting. See here.

  4. Do not Bingo posters or commenters. For an explanation of what this means, go here. Do not flame posters or other commenters; what constitutes flames is at the sole discretion of the moderators and will be taken on a case-by-case basis.

  5. Trolls will be banned, and so will those unable to act like reasonable adults. We know that "reasonable adults" is a subjective opinion. Grand, isn't it?

  6. Do not link to other LiveJournals or posts in them without permission from their owners clearly indicated in the post or comments. This includes "crossposted here, here and here" notices. Also, posting screencaps of locked entries anywhere else earns you a swift kick with the banhammer.

  7. Do not spam the community. We do not want to see the following: off-topic and duplicate posts, "you suck and I'm leaving" posts, "debate" posts (that's what cf_debate is for), quiz results, and community promotion posts (that's what community_promo is for). Also, the topics of breastfeeding and all it entails, as saying it's a touchy subject is an understatement (for explanation, see here), and WIC/foodstamps, as these invariably descend into wank and flames.

  8. Also, due to over-posting, we no longer want to see any "I'm doing a research/homework project and want you to fill out this survey, okay?" posts. There are many of them already posted, and reading back just a little bit will find you all the answers you need. We're not here to do your homework for you.

  9. We're also sick of seeing: "oh my god look what I saw on Craigslist" posts, "check out this freeloading parent on Freecycle" posts, the Duggar family "Clown Car" image, the "Use Condoms" commercial, and that picture of the baby chewing on the kitten's tail. Trust us.

  10. Congratulations on adopting a new animal! It's great that you did so. Save it for cf_pets unless you want to talk about how it was rescued from some kid who abused it or some such thing.

  11. LJ-cut all lengthy posts, embedded videos, and any pictures, and use plain black text when posting. In addition, leave comments enabled and unscreened on all posts.

  12. A note on banning: we don't give time limits on bans, we don't ban for X number of days/weeks, and we notify through comments in the community, which will notify you of a warning/banning and why. Because of the size of the community, the traffic, and having real lives to attend to, we do not send personal emails. We don't go to personal journals to leave comments (since we ask that you don't do the same to us). If you don't receive a comment notification or don't understand why you were banned, please email the mods at the address below. If you've been banned and feel you deserve a second chance, there is the place to do it.

  13. If you have any questions or concerns, e-mail the mods at the address listed above, childfree.lj@gmail.com. Do not comment on their personal journals. Do not e-mail them at their personal e-mail addresses. It is the moderators' job to run the community. If you are not a moderator, do not attempt to moderate. You will be banned.
